@Archimage “For your husband, you mean?” “Yeah, sure.”
@johnpeterharvey leggy leather jacketed communists. The worst kind!best
@cygnoir Surprising to me to hear you are considering leaving, perhaps an indication I’m not able to read people as well as I had imagined.
I would like to learn about details of what one can understand under “safe and welcoming” and what one perhaps should understand.
Upfront I want to say that although my sympathies lie with the objectives of cultural outsiders, outliers, and oddballs, I have increasing difficulty with the deformations of language being perpetrated by some in that group AND the backlash which, in turn has proponents of opposing viewpoints bathing their arguments in hyperbole and nastiness.
It’s fucked up. And been going on quite a while. In an effort to address this let’s ask,
What is safe?
What is welcoming?
@Jeber It is an interesting demographic, considering we spent the first half of our lives in non-Internet land
@Archimage Cool, looks like it works the way you like, too!
@Archimage “We’re gonna need a bigger tag.” Ha-ha's aside, maybe you need tags for your tags, if the tooling supports tag hierarchy or something similar...cuz, yeah, that’s a lot.
@Annie It’s like a flashlight in a hall of mirrors. Well lit me as far as I can see! :-)
@Annie @JohnPhilpin

[ Ed. reverse that! ]
@Annie I get that. I have had some experience recently where I too decided that it is actually fine for me to say something when normally I would cling to murky principles like "higher road" or "bigger man" and other comparable bullshit to convince myself silence and inaction are superior in some way, even if only to earn internal fortitude points. Silly, really.
And the relief I felt when the world didn’t end as a result of my comment? Remarkable!
@JohnPhilpin I feel smothered at either extreme, when most everyone is full of contempt, it feels like hard fire, and when most are slavishly smarmy, it feels like soft ice, but in both cases it is constricting and unpleasant.
