My man, what you imply is worthy. Memory is identity for each of us, and culture for all of us. But dude, how many colloquial monikers do we need to teach 'em a lesson?
History is replete with despots yearning to control other people's actions and thoughts for all the obvious reasons.
Let's resist this, especially in ourselves.
Fantasies of supremacy, imperialist war disguised as parades, bigotry, segregation, slavery, colonialism—all popular modes of shitty human behavior. I assure you they are in no danger of being forgotten. Folks are still really pissed off about that last thing (fill in the blank here).
What is forgotten is this. Thought cancer can get anyone. So instead of reminding us how smart you are for remembering all this other stuff and how dumb we are for not going out of our way to also think about all those other horrors on the anniversary of one particular one, how about instead consider if your snarking helped?
